Artist biography:

Since the early 90ies it is impossible to imagine Leipzig’s House-scene without Frankman, once born as Andreas Greiner. Being influenced by the Hip-Hop of the 80ies and the arising Techno- and House-movement he soon developed his own and unmistakable style, which can still be recognized in his recent sets and productions. A style which is one or even the reason why he was significantly involved in the development of the presently popular Leipzig’s Deep-House-style.

After various private parties, already in 1992 Frankman got a residency at the legendary “Distillery”. Later, his sets in the “Elastic” (since 1996) and in the “Redlight” (since 1997) left its mark on Leipzig’s club-scene. The nights in the former “Distillery’s” vault and the annual „Underbridge“ open–airs (since 1992) became legendary. Guest performances all over Germany followed, for example in the “Globus”/”Tresor” (Berlin), “Club Trinidad” (Dortmund), “Liqiud Lounge” (Hannover) and the “Kassablanca” (Jena).

Since the mid-90ies, Frankman focussed on his own productions. In 1998 his first record “The Past” was published by the label “FM Musik” which was especially founded together with Ralf Bürger (probably the nation’s most dynamic party- and club-organizer) for this purpose. Soon, further publications on “FM Musik” followed, as well as contributions to “Freude am Tanzen”, “Draft” and last but not least to Steve Bug’s “Dessous Rec.”. It was only a question of time that he obtained the first orders for remixes.

With his typical style he refined the tracks of Lorenzo, Marlow, Pino Shamlou, Phonique and others. Asked about his most important publications, he always mentions “Unterzucker” (1999 “FM Musik”). The record’s name, by the way, resulted from the delay of the sound-engineer, who excused himself with having had a low blood sugar level.

Since 2001 joint productions with various colleagues became more frequent. So, working with DJ Dan Confusion from Leipzig, the “seven EP” was published on “FM Musik”. Co-operations with de Bear (“Dessous Rec.”) and Matthias Tanzman (“Moon Harbour”) followed. In 2002 his first longplayer “different divides” on “Draft Recordings” came out. In 2003 for Frankman it was time for some changes: With „Auris Rec.“ a new Deep-House label was thrown on the market. Since, publications of for example Lars Behrenroth, Metrosoul and Parov Stelar followed.

Of course Frankman often takes care of the matter himself -in form of remixes, for example of “Deepthoughts” and “Smooth Society”, or in form of complete 12”s. In the view of his work’s quality, it is not a surprise that Frankman’s productions can be found on internationally renowned singles/records, such as Steve Bug’s „The Flow“ (2002 „Cocoon Rec.“) and Harley & Muscle’s „Play Deep House“ (2006 “Soulstar”).
