At the tender age of 6, Danilo Plessow`s path in music started with playing drums. With his engagement in a school big band in Schwäbisch Gmünd (near Stuttgart/Germany) he found his love for jazz – and from 11 years of age on he started working on his own music using a computer and samples. Being influenced by Jazz, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop and House music, the first results were already released 5 years later -at the age of 15/ 16 ! -on Stuttgarts Pulver Records. Together with Joachim Tobias, Danilo had formed the House/Broken Beat project “Inverse Cinematics” (http://www.myspace.com/inversecinematics): Seven 12” Records, the highly acclaimed album "Passin’ through" and many remixes and compilation appearances followed. The project was and still is a favorite of some of the world’s most influential leftfield DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Rainer Trüby (with whom Danilo actually proves a productive collaboration), Michael Rütten or Benji B. After several other co-operations and solo projects in the Nujazz vein ('Hipster Wonkaz' with P.Valentino for Ubiquity Records or solo as 'Aphro Pzyko' for Raw Fusion), Danilo went back to his House music roots with the “Motor City Drum Ensemble” (MCDE).

This artist moniker refers to his home town Stuttgart, the world's cradle of the automobile and Germany’s very own motor city (w. Mercedes-Benz / Porsche / Bosch a. o.) and obviously is a link to Detroit as well. Taking influences from Soul, Disco and Detroit/Chicago 90`s House, the new moniker soon became his best known: He released five 12” in 2008, and especially his “Raw Cuts” series made him a shooting star in the Deep House scene, highlighted by the internet house/techno bible “Resident Advisor” for whom he did a mix-tape that is soon regarded as one of the best mixes of this significant podcast.
Having blown the world away with his ‘Raw Cuts’ series, released on his own label “MCDE” (run together with Pablo Valentino), Danilo has made an enormous impact on House and Techno. On ‘Juno Records’ all three 12" of the cult series are meanwhile charted within the top 8 of the all time 'Deep House' bestsellers and undoubtedly they are still belonging to the most played tracks on the dance-floors!
His other own label “Four Roses Recordings” has been doing also very good.

Thanks to his remarkable musical talent and overflowing creativity, Danilo has become a sought after and very successful re-mixer as well. With just 25 years of age and including all his projects he has already released on more than 25 labels.

Though electronica has always been a producer's medium (and the few vocalists keeping their head above water are usually women), Robert Owens became one of the figures most associated with the late-'80s golden era of Chicago house. Born in Ohio in 1961, he grew up singing in the church, but was working as a DJ when he met pioneering Chicago producer Larry Heard in 1985. The pair formed Fingers Inc. with Ron Wilson, and released a few excellent singles ("You're Mine," "It's Over") and the 1988 full-length "Another Side" .The group dissolved soon after, though, as Heard's burgeoning solo-production career (as Mr. Fingers) took over.

Owens had already released tracks on his own - "Bring Down the Walls" and "I'm Strong" for Alleviated, with production from Heard - and he signed a solo contract with 4th & Broadway. His 1990 LP "Rhythms in Me" was a solid effort, though it soon disappeared within the quickly disintegrating Chicago house scene. (One of his best-known features of the late '80s, the epic house moment "Tears," appeared under the names of Frankie Knuckles and producer Satoshi Tomiie.)

Owens had basically retired from music by the early '90s, preferring instead to run his own Christian bookstore. By 1996, he'd returned to dance music with "Ordinary People", a two-part EP for Musical Directions. He teamed up with Tomiie and Cevin Fisher for a track from Tomiie's "Full Lick" LP in 1999, and one year later Owens appeared on the Photek smash "Mine to Give".
Added on board the Chicago house production team Phuture, as a replacement for DJ Pierre, Roy Davis Jr. later followed his mentor to New York and worked at Strictly Rhythm, recording his own singles for Force Inc., Big Big Trax and Power Music. Originally born in California, Davis moved to Chicago's south side early in his childhood. After being turned on by legendary acid-house pioneers like Phuture and Lil' Louis, he became a DJ and began producing as well, with his first single, "20 Below," recorded for the Jack Trax label.

Paul Cottam

UK based DJ and Producer.

Cottam has been spinning other peoples records from the age of 14 - after ‘borrowing’ his brothers 80s soul and early hip hop he discovered house music and was hooked. Clubbing in the north through his teens, as acid became rave became progressive DJs like Dave Clarke introduced him to harder techno and electro, a love that still lasts to this day with DJs like Surgeon and the black country crew introducing dubstep into their sets.

After so long loving the music and tinkering with his own ideas, 2009 saw his first house experiments emerge, often re-working soul and hip hop tracks.
Zoran Relic emerged as a electronic outcome of a logic consequence from the urban mentality which floated by air channels as notes from London, Berlin and Detroit. He is trying to develop his own style by experimenting and even thinking about unlogic assets and using uncconventional methods, so that he could try to figure the other side of the sound objects that consead that point of gas in space called sound...
After graduating from the Academy for the Arts, he recieved a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute where his interest in music was taken to a new level through his study of sculpture. In 1994, he recieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from KCAI with a concentration in Sound Sculpture, a form of orchestrationusing live instruments, looped recordings, the human voice, and numerous other sound generating devices. While in Kansas CIty, Theo continued to impact and be impacted by dance music, helping to bring a dormant underground music scene to life. In 1994, Theo Parrish moved to Michigan where he became heavily involved in Detroit's underground music scene. Producing music and delivering his unique and dynamic sets in venues throughout the Detroit and surrounding areas, as well as abroad he has gained the attention and respect of dj's, producers, listeners and dnancers worldwide.

Few artists in the music business reach the level of accomplishment and status that Kerri Chandler has achieved. He is known throughout the universe as one of the original creators of the deep house sound and his "basslines" are now legendary.
Kerri grew up in the New Jersey area during the days of the infamous Zanzibar club with resident DJ Tony Humpries. Kerri's father was a DJ as well, which gave Kerri a rich background in the origins of the New York Underground Sound (known also as "Garage" music). He made his DJ debut at the Rally Record Club in East Orange, New Jersey at the tender age of Thirteen.
Kerri eventually found himself intrigued with the production element in dance music and soon began to create his own grooves on his one man label, Express Records. In 1991, Atlantic Records signed his debut single, "SuperLover/Get It Off" and the rest is house music history. Despite his success, Kerri Chandler has always remained true to the spirit of the underground. When listening to tracks such as the "Atmosphere EP" on Shelter Records and the seminal, "A Basement, Redlight and A Feeling" album on Madhouse, one has to marvel at Kerri's ability to not compromise his unique sound for commercial gain.
Kerri Chandler is a vortex where tradition and innovation meet. Tradition as in the soulful roots of Jersey house, innovation as in the streamlined, sparse arrangements and shrewd use of technology. Kerri masters rhythm and space.
Kerri injects his free spirit into his productions. With a solid education in Garage grooves, Kerri takes vocals, rhythms and instruments and with uncanny precision pieces them together, delivering beautiful, monster jams. In the expanses of his breaks the odd counter rhythm will inexplicably appear for a second and then disappear, creating fleshy excitement, not mechanical repetition. His basslines go from heavy and heady to playful and quirky -- always deliriously intoxicating. His hooks are loving details like horn hits, washes of synthesizer or catchy choruses that emerge to create songs from a maddening bulldozer of brutal drive. Here the dreamer takes hold, transporting us into a dimension of seemingly endless travel...

Kerri is sure to continue to startle us as he has from the very beginning as with his first remix, the now-classic scratch on "Get It Off". His fusions, clamped to the beat of his unique, thundering kick drum, redefine house music at every turn.

It’s difficult to summarize Jay Haze’s ten-year musical career, but in concentrated form: producer, DJ and record label owner. Whether working in the studio or behind the decks in the club, he is a pro at getting people to react. Jay left Philadelphia in the early 00s and is now based in Berlin, also home of his house/techno record labels TuningSpork and Contexterrior. He DJs several times per year in the city’s famed Watergate club, and also holds a quarterly residency at Fabric, London – in addition to his stops throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America.

Jay has also released tracks and remixes on literally dozens of other labels, often under a variety of pseudonyms, such as Fuckpony (for BPitch, Get Physical and Cocoon) and Sub Version (for Soul Jazz). Apart from his solo work, Jay has collaborated with the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and Samim, and has remixed numerous other artists such as DJ Hell & P. Diddy, Gui Boratto and even Yann Tiersen’s theme from Amelie, which became a crossover hit. Haze’s productions constantly find their way into the sets of top-tier DJs like Richie Hawtin and M.A.N.D.Y.

Starting with his debut full-length Love for a Strange World (Kitty-Yo, 2005) and continuing with Love & Beyond (TuningSpork, 2008), Jay stepped outside of dance music into other realms such as pop, hip-hop and dubstep. His adventurous mix compilation Fabric47 (2009) brought immense praise, and it also launched his new campaign DJs for DRC to help victims in the war-torn Congo: he donated all his money from the CD sales toward the charity Merlin, and having encouraged a number of other DJs to donate money from gigs, aims to travel to the Congo to shoot a documentary and raise awareness. Still active on the music front, of course, Jay has just released the second Fuckpony album and has been focusing on crafting new sounds for other vocalists.

Andy Vaz hails from Düsseldorf, Germany, the breeding ground of Kraftwerk. Since 1997, Andy manages and curates Background Recordings, internationally acclaimed as being one of the most instrumental labels to concentrate on what people refer to as: minimal techno.

Long before Minimal Techno turned into a genre, and subgenre after subgenre were invented, Andy has already been concentrating on providing a cultural conduit for more minimal electronic music, between Düsseldorf, San Francisco, Detroit, Montreal, Toronto, London, Chicago, South Africa, Monterrey, Perth and countless other cities around the world. Some of the most influential international musicians of the minimal electronic music movement had their works presented on his Background Imprint. Artists such as: Sutekh, Jan Jelinek, Todd Sines, Terrence Dixon, Jeff Milligan, Akufen, Submania, Dean DeCosta, Rhythm Maker, Kit Clayton, Ectomorph, Deadbeat, Baby Ford, Stewart Walker, Donnacha Costello, Geoff White, Smyglyssna, Portable, Antiguo Automata Mexicano, Oliver Hacke, Frivolous and many others have graced the Background stage. The Label has been a major force in the presentation of minimal techno, introducing and educating the world to the geographic variable influences that exist within the genre.

As the years have passed, house music and techno have fused, segregated, split and recombined in countless ways. Both techno and house have drawn influences from one another to create hybrids that have changed the face of music as we know it. Andy could not ignore his undeniable appreciation for the house movement and therefore, decided to start a second label in order to help facilitate the growing relationship between global deep house and minimal techno: "A touch of Class / ATC" was born.
In 2000, Andy Vaz has released his own material. At first he started his Sound Variation [---] series. A set of 10 conceptual releases where as the sound can be defined by the criteria of one's imagination constrained only by the definition of it being 4/4 based electronic music without following any clearly defined linear sound aesthetic or concept. All works simply defined by the criteria of re-use, recycling of same instrumentations, within the context of boundless compositional approaches.
Next to the series Andy Vaz also started putting out minimal techno dance material recently. Music, that is focused on the Groove and is based on his rich experiences as an internationally rewarded Live Act. Apart from having played countless clubs, festivals and venues, he’s done everything from the legendary “Liquid Room” in Tokyo to the Mutek Festival in Mexico. Andy has build up an excellent reputation as a crowd shaking and unique sounding live act. Known for extended two hour dance live-sets to more abstract listening performances Andy proves to be diverse and suitable in various musical contexts.
In March 2007 Vaz launched a new label called “YORE”, which will focus on the authentic old school Detroit & Chicago House Sound with original artists such as Detroit’s Rick Wade, Terrence Dixon, Todd Sines among others just to name a few, presenting a new platform for these artists as well as for himself, which will help spread his musical visions further to new audiences.
Ichisan is the moniker of Igor Skafar, a Slovenian photographer whose relationship with music began by playing the guitar in various bands, which later developed into a preference for electronic music. In 2008 he released his first solo international 12" on London's Airtight Recordings. 'Global Pillage' and 'Tips & Tricks' were very positively received and accumulated a number of favorable reviews, including a four star review from iDj magazine and praise from many illustrious names in the music industry such as Bjorn Torske, Pete Herbert, Prins Thomas and others... Ichisan has also contributed a track "Radar Pulse is Sent", to the Eskimo recordings compilation "Cosmic Balearic Beats Vol. 1" and it is released on Airtight recordings, Solardisco, Rare Wiri and Under The Shade/Jiscomusic; including a remix for the legendary band "Space", which was released on Nang records in November last year. Together with Ule Nakova he is working on a project named Ichisan&Nakova. Their first album Yugo Tempo is released on the Nang records.
