Ilija Rudman - Gentle Fire

Ilija Rudman`s album named "The Reveal" is out and we like it, a lot.

Bear Funk label managed to get hotshot Croatian producer Ilija Rudman to put a pause on his other projects and make his own album. What Rudman reveals on The Reveal is the depth of his '80s electro-dance influences, as he lines up a mouthwatering list of vintage '80s synths and drum machines to aid in his revisiting those sounds on a record that somehow still sounds surprisingly contemporary.

The follow-up to his inspired 2007 debut LP, Working Nights, sees the Mancunian producer and Prime Numbers honcho Trus'me revamping his lively synthesis of soul, disco, funk and house with a newly organic feel that largely eschews samples in favor of live instrumentation and a host of guest vocalists including the likes of Paul Randolph, Pirahnahead, Dâm Funk and Amp Fiddler. Theo Parrish - Moonlite

"Love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, performer or DJ. Everything else stems from that core, that love. With that love, sampling can become a tribute; An expansion on ideas long forgotten, reconstruction, collage. Using the same understanding openly and respectfully can turn DJing into a spiritual participation. It can turn a few hours of selection into essential history; Necessary listening through movement." This personal philosophy gives shape and direction to the distinctive sounds that are created by Theo Parrish.

Art Of Tones - The World As I Live It

In 2005, a mysterious producer called Art Of Tones releases a series of two EPs on respected imprint 2020 Vision to critical acclaim in house music circle. Everybody thought it was a well known producer using an alias for a one off project. They were right about one thing : Art Of Tones was in fact Ludovic Llorca essentially known for his jazz infused downtempo album "Newcomer" on F Communication giving it a go on more straight up, dubby, dancefloor orientated house music.

But they were wrong on one thing though : Art Of Tones wasn't a one off project. In 2007, again on 2020 Vision, Llorca, still hidden behind the Art Of Tones moniker, releases the "Praise" EP which because a massive underground hit, leaving everyone speculating about who's behind the project.

Since then, Llorca finally reveals himself as the man behind Art Of Tones, which is nowdays his main house music musical project, leaving the Llorca moniker for his more soul and funk infused projects.

Today, Llorca aka Art Of Tones works closely with Hamburg based imprint Room With A View. "The World As I Live It" EP became in early 2010 a massive success, both critically and commercially.

Delano Smith - Constellation -

Label: Sushitech
Catalog#: SUSH04.4
Format: Vinyl, 10", 33 ⅓ RPM, Limited Edition, Grey Marbled
Country: UK
Released: 25 Nov 2009
Genre: Electronic
Style: House, Deep House

Artist:

Born in Chicago and raised on Detroit's West side, Delano Smith represents one of the last of a rare group of Detroits first house DJs. Perhaps it was the juvenile absorption of the sights and sounds around him during his first 5 years in the Windy City coupled with his experience during the new DJ craze of his high school years in Detroit that influenced Delano the most or maybe it is simply that enigmatic link between music people in Chicago and Detroit, known to insiders as the I94 Connection. Regardless of the reason for his natural ear for the deep and groovy, Delano can lay claim to a legacy that most Detroit jocks cannot. When performing outside of his native city, Delano's unique sets highlight the fact that his skills were forged in an era before the rigid lines of house and techno genres appeared.

His attention to programming sets that are kinetic, emotional and educational are met with a delivery of the highest class. Having been one of the original young guns personally mentored by Motowns 1st DJ, Ken Collier, he displays skills entirely unique to this group. Having cut his teeth in a time when an aspiring DJ had to live off his wits to make the cut, his dynamic skill set has made him the real Detroit head's secret favourite. Smith's extended hiatus later in his DJ years was ended spectacularly when the Detroit Beatdown project again highlighted his talent. Teamed with Mike ‘Agent X' Clark and Norm Talley, the crew began to spread the word of Detroit to fresh audiences, in demand globally and touching down at renowned clubs such as London's Fabric en route.

On the production front, Delano stands head and shoulders above the rest in crafting alluring, forward thinking and highly danceable grooves. His productions on Third Ear, Sushitech and Still Music have taken up crate spaces with jocks looking to add the perfect blend of soul and energy to their sets. With his own imprint Mixmode debuting in 2003, it continues to release selectively soulful dance floor gems. Both behind the decks and in the studio, Delano's genre boundary defying vision of working a floor is a direct link to the beginnings of the DJ in Detroit, maintaining his integrity today, his hunger shows little sign of abating.

Kraftwerk - Computer Love

Kraftwerk, German for power plant or power station, is an electronic music band from Düsseldorf, Germany. The group was formed by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider in 1970, and was fronted by them until Schneider's departure in 2008. The signature Kraftwerk sound combines driving, repetitive rhythms with catchy melodies, mainly following a Western Classical style of harmony, with a minimalistic and strictly electronic instrumentation. The group's simplified lyrics are at times sung through a vocoder or generated by computer-speech software. Kraftwerk were one of the first groups to popularize electronic music and are considered pioneers in the field. In the 1970s and early 1980s, Kraftwerk's distinctive sound was revolutionary, and has had a lasting effect across many genres of modern music.

Roy Ayers - Everybody loves the sunshine

Once one of the most visible and winning jazz vibraphonists of the 1960s, then an R&B bandleader in the 1970s and '80s, Roy Ayers' reputation s now that of one of the prophets of acid jazz, a man decades ahead of his time. A tune like 1972's "Move to Groove" by the Roy Ayers Ubiquity has a crackling backbeat that serves as the prototype for the shuffling hip-hop groove that became, shall we say, ubiquitous on acid jazz records; and his relaxed 1976 song "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" has been frequently sampled. Yet Ayers' own playing has always been rooted in hard bop: crisp, lyrical, rhythmically resilient. His own reaction to being canonized by the hip-hop crowd as the "Icon Man" is tempered with the detachment of a survivor in a rough business. "I'm having fun laughing with it," he has said. "I don't mind what they call me, that's what people do in this industry."

Chic - I Want Your Love (pink vinyl 12" single)

Those who choose to write off Chic as simply "another disco group" really miss the point. While the group's creative and commercial peak was indeed during the disco-dominated years of 1978-1980, Chic arguably served as the bridge from the James Brown/Sly Stone pioneering funk of the 60s and early 70s to the electronic dance/funk that came to dominate the mid-80s.

Formed in the mid-70s by jazz-trained guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist extraordinaire Bernard Edwards, along with drummer Tony Thompson and singers Norma-Jean Wright and Alfa Anderson, Chic thrust itself onto the scene in 1978 with the novelty club hit "Dance Dance Dance (Yowsah)." While the rather generic voices of Wright and Anderson (and later Luci Martin) were ostensibly up front, there was little question that the foundation of Chic's work was the stripped down, funky arrangements along Edwards' fat bass lines.

The group moved to the forefront of the disco movement in 1979 with perhaps that genre's biggest song, "Le Freak." Chic scored another big hit that year with the mid-tempo "I Want Your Love," then in 1980 released "Good Times," a monumental dance cut and one of the most sampled and copied cuts of the next two decades (including most notably Queen's take on it with "Another One Bites the Dust").

The group's slide was as quick as its ascension, and, despite a few memorable early 80s singles such as "Rebels Are We" and "Stage Fright," Chic was nonexistent by 1984. However Rodgers and Edwards' influence continued stronger than ever. Rodgers arguably became the decade's most prolific producer, and his work with Diana Ross ("Upside Down"), Madonna ("Like a Virgin") and David Bowie ("Let's Dance") was huge. Edwards went on to produce Robert Palmer ("Addicted to Love") and the supergroup Power Station (which included former Chic drummer Thompson).

Chic regrouped briefly in the early 90s, but the reunion ended tragically with the sudden death of Edwards. Rodgers has occasionally recreated the group (with new members) from time to time for limited tours. Rodgers has also formed the We Are Family Foundation, which is designed to "create and support programs that inspire and educate individuals of all ages about diversity, understanding, respect and multiculturalism; and to support those who are victims of intolerance."

Simon Baker - Plastik (Todd Terje Mix)

Training to become a pianist Terje enrolled at a local music school, but to his disappointment there wasn’t much jazz being taught there. Gradually leaving the musical career path, he later moved on to studying physics at the University of Oslo. Although not longer aspiring to become a pianist, he was by no means over music. In 2001 Terje got in touch with Prins Thomas, who was at the time working at HS Records in Oslo. Thomas soon recognized his potential, and helped pushing Terje in the right directions. Oslo is a small place where like minded folks tend to join forces, and with his thorough musical understanding and nerdy like interest in old and new records spanning from that new Idjut Boys 12” to experimental synth bands very few of us have ever heard of, he soon became one of the key players on the Oslo electronic disco scene. Besides working on his own projects, Terje’s played on some of Prins Thomas’ tracks, and not to mention his remix of the Lindstrøm 12” “Another Station”.

Kohncke began releasing solo material in 1999 with Spiralen der Erinnerung (Spirals of Memory), an album that consisted solely of covers. Two years later, Kohncke joined up with Kompakt and released two singles between 2001 and 2002 (Jet and 2 After 99) and two albums 'Was Ist Musik?' and 'Doppelleben'.

Kerry Chandler - Bar A Thym

Kerri 'Kaoz' Chandler one of deep house music's originators, has been injecting soul into music since the early nineties. An ambassador of the natural and instinctive 4/4 beat, Kerri's influences can be traced back to New Jersey growing up in a family of jazz musicians. His father being a respected deejay, provided Kerri with a rich background in the origins of soul, disco and the New York Underground Sound (known also as "Garage" music). Accompanying his father to the gigs, Kerri began playing records at the Rally Record Club in East Orange, New Jersey at the tender age of thirteen. Exposed to such musical creativity, it wasn't long before Kerri found himself interested in production.
