Floating Points - Myrtle Avenue

Putting some organic funk back into dubstep and techno as if he were the child of Luke Vibert and Flying Lotus, London’s Sam Shepherd is better known to dancefloors and tasteful U.K. radio programs as Floating Points. Shepherd launched the project in 2008 by releasing some white-label 12”s plus a bootleg remix of avant jazz legend Sun Ra’s “I’ll Wait for You.” Gilles Peterson picked up on both and featured the two tracks on his Worldwide radio program. Even though he spent his days finishing his Ph.D. in neuroscience, Shepherd still found time in 2009 to partner with Rinse FM’s leftfield DJ Alexander Nut and form the Eglo label. Floating Points’ “For You” single came out on the label that same year, as did Vacuum, an EP named after his parent’s Hoover, which Shepherd had sampled for the A-side. A guest mix on Mary Anne Hobbs’ radio program also aired in 2009, and Floating Points would make an appearance on the BBC DJ’s Wild Angels compilation. Shepherd kicked off 2010 by playing London’s Fabric nightclub alongside Four Tet and James Holden.

Joe Stawarz - Bee Bear

Joe Stawarz - Bee Bear (Soma325d)

1. Bee Bear
2. Deep Cut
3. Deep Cut (Mihalis Safras Remix)

All the way from Western Australia, the young Joe Stawarz combines beautiful compositions with slick production making for a truly unique trademark sound. After getting Soma’s attention with his competition winning remix of Slam’s “We’re Not Here”, Joe released his debut EP ‘Cry’ with the label. Now he returns with Bee Bear, an EP that more than lives up to the expectation of such a talented young producer.

The EP is full of deep and delicate arrangements that demonstrate both Joe’s scholar ability as a composer and his master craftsmanship as an up and coming producer. The tracks indulge in their own musicality rather than conforming to the format of standard club tracks of the moment.

Bee Bear is in a world of it’s own. Another expertly crafted sequence of glimmering clicks and rolling snares while cleverly arranged horns give the track a unique sounding melancholy that lingers on the brain.

Deep Cut is a powerful yet composed track that patiently reveals itself over time. Finely tuned clicks set with clinical precision create a minimal atmosphere while deep sweeping synths build the track until it suddenly kicks into life with gripping tech house. The track then levels into a pensive reprise of sweeping syncopation concluding what is an epic track.

Mihalis Safras brings Deep Cut to the surface with a tech house remix that gives it a dance-floor edge. Whilst adding his own distinctive rhythmic sound, Safras pushes the melodies of the original further, creating a powerful groove that will satisfy basements and big rooms alike.

Minnie Riperton- Inside My Love

Minnie Julia Riperton (November 8, 1947 – July 12, 1979) was an American singer-songwriter best known for her 1975 single "Lovin' You". She was married to songwriter and music producer Richard Rudolph from 1972 until her death in the summer of 1979. They had two children - music engineer Marc Rudolph and actress/comedienne Maya Rudolph.

Riperton's first professional singing engagement was with The Gems, when she was fifteen. Raynard Miner, a blind pianist, heard Riperton singing during her stint with Hyde Park's A Capella Choir and became her musical patron. The Gems had relatively limited commercial success, but proved to be a good outlet for Riperton's talent. Eventually the group became a session group known as Studio Three and it was during this period that they provided the backing vocals on the classic 1965 Fontella Bass hit "Rescue Me".

In 1964 the Gems released a local hit, I Can't Help Myself, and their last single, He Makes Me Feel So Good, was released in 1965. After that, the group released records under numerous names—most notably 1966's Baby I Want You by the Girls Three and 1967's My Baby's Real by the Starlets. The latter has achieved cult status with northern soul fans and remains a favorite. It also was a Motown-style song reminiscent of Tammi Terrell. In 1968 Watered Down was released as a follow-up, under the name The Starlets. It was the last release of Riperton's former girl group.

The song was first performed by Bing Crosby for the 1942 film Holiday Inn. While it is often regarded as a Christmas song, in the movie it is performed on New Year's Eve, and expresses a wish for the listener to enjoy "happy holidays" throughout the entire year. The song has been recorded by numerous artists over the years, including Perry Como, Percy Faith, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Jackie Gleason, Peggy Lee, Barry Manilow (in a medley with "White Christmas"), Jo Stafford, and Andy Williams (in a medley with Kay Thompson's composition "The Holiday Season").

Ron Trent - Prescription Manifesto

Ronald "Ron" Trent (born May 23, 1973) is an American house music DJ and record producer.

After experimenting with beat machines and a small keyboard in 1986, he began recording the track "Altered States" while still in high school. He released it on Armando's Warehouse Records in 1990. The track became a club hit among devotees of techno, despite Trent's grounding in the Chicago house scene. He then began working with Detroit producers such as Chez Damier, with whom he issued several singles before co-founding the label Prescription Records in 1993. They also worked with Berlin-based producer Maurizio.
Later in the 1990s, he moved to Brooklyn and put together a collaboration known as Urban Sound Gallery, or USG. He also worked with Anthony Nicholson there. He returned to Chicago in the 2000s.

Todd Terje - Snooze 4 Love

Training to become a pianist Terje enrolled at a local music school, but to his disappointment there wasn’t much jazz being taught there. Gradually leaving the musical career path, he later moved on to studying physics at the University of Oslo. Although not longer aspiring to become a pianist, he was by no means over music. In 2001 Terje got in touch with Prins Thomas, who was at the time working at HS Records in Oslo. Thomas soon recognized his potential, and helped pushing Terje in the right directions. Oslo is a small place where like minded folks tend to join forces, and with his thorough musical understanding and nerdy like interest in old and new records spanning from that new Idjut Boys 12” to experimental synth bands very few of us have ever heard of, he soon became one of the key players on the Oslo electronic disco scene. Besides working on his own projects, Terje’s played on some of Prins Thomas’ tracks, and not to mention his remix of the Lindstrøm 12” “Another Station”.

Duff Disco - I Remember (Sunshine EP)

What with edits being the new black and every man and his Mac who is willing and able(ton) slapping an eight extra bars to the beginning of a track and calling it an their own, it takes a little something extra to stand out in the crowd. Duff Disco has proved himself to be a man who has that something extra. Championed by the likes of legendary edit King Greg Wilson to new kids on the scotch block, The Revenge and The 6th Borough Project, he has managed that rare feat, to slide in to a market that seemed flooded and make a real impact.

Following a mega-hyped remix of Dan Black’s ‘Symphonies’ on Polydor, Duff Disco has gone on to release edits of The Thin White Duke, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Mark Morrison, Steve Miller Band and Stretch that have all graced the top sales charts on Juno..

Jazzanova - Look What You're Doin' to Me (MCDE Remix)

MCDE - Danilo Plessow

At the tender age of 6, Danilo Plessow`s path in music started with playing drums. With his engagement in a school big band in Schwäbisch GmĂ¼nd (near Stuttgart/Germany) he found his love for jazz – and from 11 years of age on he started working on his own music using a computer and samples. Being influenced by Jazz, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop and House music, the first results were already released 5 years later -at the age of 15/ 16 ! -on Stuttgarts Pulver Records. Together with Joachim Tobias, Danilo had formed the House/Broken Beat project “Inverse Cinematics” (http://www.myspace.com/inversecinematics): Seven 12” Records, the highly acclaimed album "Passin’ through" and many remixes and compilation appearances followed. The project was and still is a favorite of some of the world’s most influential leftfield DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Rainer TrĂ¼by (with whom Danilo actually proves a productive collaboration), Michael RĂ¼tten or Benji B. After several other co-operations and solo projects in the Nujazz vein ('Hipster Wonkaz' with P.Valentino for Ubiquity Records or solo as 'Aphro Pzyko' for Raw Fusion), Danilo went back to his House music roots with the “Motor City Drum Ensemble” (MCDE).

This artist moniker refers to his home town Stuttgart, the world's cradle of the automobile and Germany’s very own motor city (w. Mercedes-Benz / Porsche / Bosch a. o.) and obviously is a link to Detroit as well. Taking influences from Soul, Disco and Detroit/Chicago 90`s House, the new moniker soon became his best known: He released five 12” in 2008, and especially his “Raw Cuts” series made him a shooting star in the Deep House scene, highlighted by the internet house/techno bible “Resident Advisor” for whom he did a mix-tape that is soon regarded as one of the best mixes of this significant podcast.
Having blown the world away with his ‘Raw Cuts’ series, released on his own label “MCDE” (run together with Pablo Valentino), Danilo has made an enormous impact on House and Techno. On ‘Juno Records’ all three 12" of the cult series are meanwhile charted within the top 8 of the all time 'Deep House' bestsellers and undoubtedly they are still belonging to the most played tracks on the dance-floors!
His other own label “Four Roses Recordings” has been doing also very good.

Thanks to his remarkable musical talent and overflowing creativity, Danilo has become a sought after and very successful re-mixer as well. With just 25 years of age and including all his projects he has already released on more than 25 labels.

No doubt, 2009 was MCDE’s year. In February , Beatport’s team of music experts had put him ahead of the up and coming Deep House artists worldwide. In the following months MCDE got a growing critical and popular wave of applause due to his amazing, sample-heavy ‘discoish’ house tunes, delivering the whole ‘Deep House’ notion with clarity and vision alongside a definitive style and by keeping the quality levels bubbling over. “MCDE has cultivated a style that is somehow incredibly loose and tight at the same time” and that has made him one of the most appreciated producers of dance music at its best who manages to blend House, light Techno and Disco with the same amount of success.

With his impressive slew of stunning remixes for the likes of DJ Sprinkles,Tiga, T-Coy, Steve Bug, DJ T, Tom Trago, Jazzanova, Presence, Akabu, Toby Tobias, Losoul, A. Lodemann, Caribou and others, Danilo created Deep House master pieces. Since march 2010 for example, his buoyant remix of NUfrequency's "Fallen Hero" is the nr.1 of the top 100 all-time charted tracks (of over 500.000 !) on RA's DJ Charts and he's ranked among the top 10 charted artists.
As well, his estimated podcasts (for RA/XLR8R/Juno Plus/…) proved that he understands much more about house than what simply emanates from his mixing desk.

Just as successful as he does with his top-ranking productions he works for the dance-floors as a very popular DJ – just being picked out by the RA-Poll one of the TOP 50 worldwide (as one of the youngest of course !). So Danilo now hits the road on a regular again to show some of his DJ skills, which already have brought him to the most famous venues all over Europe, the US, Russia, Asia and Australia .

A reviewer brought it into focus: “Danilo Plessow has been writing and composing electronic music since he was fourteen years old. Now at twenty-five, he has become one of the most sought after and accomplished artists in the world. From his staggeringly diverse productions, to his brain changing remix work, to his obsessive DJ sets around the world, this young man turns heads with seemingly everything he does. He has played some of the best clubs, parties, and radio shows on earth, and being on equally as large and respected recording labels.” -
“Danilo Plessow is still young, but it’s obvious from his 2009 that he has an innate talent for the simple things and will likely continue his run for a long, long time.” – Therefore better watch out, this boy‘s on a mission !
